CHEAM CHARGERS VISIT BOURNEMOUTH 2005
After a successful visit to Bournemouth in 2004 the Chargers were keen to repeat the trip and assembled a new squad to take on the mighty Stags and the local boys. Most of the team arrived on Friday night and spent invaluable time acclimatising to the new air and surroundings. Several restorative beverages were taken to prepare fully of the rigours of the following day and the gentlemen retired to their beds just in time to get up and move to the arena....
ROUND 1 - CHARGERS v STAGS
A thrill a minute (sometimes even two thrills a minute) game with everyone keen to run off the effects of the previous evenings "warm-up". Len showed particular aptitude during this game for some excellent passing as a result of which we may play in Black tops next year rather than red. Most people were seeing just the one basket and Big Andy showed the way through the key on a number of occasions. Triallists, Tim, James and Ian instantly gelled with the teams special offences and learnt our set plays well. Unfortunately, Cheam MVP Leon was playing for the Stags and used his savvy to shepherd his troops over the line. A creditable performance from the Chargers with Tim, Andy and Joe all reaching double figures.
Final Score: City Stags 90 - Cheam Chargers 66
ROUND 2 - CHARGERS v BOURNEMOUTH
The tournament favourites Bournemouth were the next challenge for our trusty lads who were beginning to feel the adrenaline surge run out. A quick mop up of the alcohol that had oozed out of our pores and we were off again. Len put the sleepy time of the first game behind himself and put in a much improved performance while Tim, Stu and Ian marshalled the ball well. James put in some excellent blocks and the offense floewd much better. Cheam kept the Bournemouth lads with their 6'8" "Big Tom" threat in sight but in the end the Bournemouth lads kept their noses in front. Good performances in this game from Johnson's motivation technique and Danny's twinkling toes and with Len, Tim and Joe reaching double figures.
Final Score: Bournemouth 81 - Cheam Chargers 65
ROUND 3 - STAGS v BOURNEMOUTH
A quieter game than what had gone before (I wonder why?) but interesting none the less as the two teams battled it out to be top dog. In the end one of the teams won. There were excellent performances from Joe and Stu as the referees and Piet doing his first table. Our thoughts are with Larry Jazz as he recovers from his injuries. Oh, it was Bournemouth that won - pipping the Stags to the championship.
Final Score: Bournemouth Lots - City Stags Not Quite as Much
ROUND 4 - CHARGERS, STAGS AND BOURNEMOUTH v BOURNEMOUTH NIGHTLIFE
A restorative libation and some excellent Italian cuisine later saw the combined teams tackling the Bournemouth nightlife in Yates' then in Toko. Top work awards go to Team Orange for their balcony spotting techniques. Good work from Piet in securing an excellent Bar position and boxing out in Toko. Our thanks go to the Cowgirls Hen Party for their interesting conversations - and for their unbeatable thumb wrestling champion. Top work to Big Tom and Big Pete for making it easy to spot where everyone was.
Final Score: Return fixture next year
